Sustainable communities as a future way of life - NOW!

Social integration - through community contributions

INTEGRATED LIVING COMMUNITY

Integrated Living Community is a new sustainable living community where citizens with an ambition to live sustainably create a coexistence with vulnerable citizens such as younger citizens with disabilities who need support in everyday life — but who at the same time want a life of freedom, community, dignity and the opportunity to contribute. ILC brings together sustainable housing, green energy, car sharing, shared facilities and social economy enterprises in one inclusive local community. Here, people with and without disabilities live side by side in a diverse community, where diversity is a strength, and where everyone can participate on their own terms. ILC is not just a place to live. It is a new way to live, work and be part of a community.

"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."
- Buckminster Fuller

Integrated Living Community - ILC what is it?

Integrated Living Community — ILC — is an organization that works to develop a new form of sustainable living community for vulnerable citizens with various challenges such as disability, loneliness, lack of meaningful employment, and young people who have a significant need for support and help in everyday life.

ILC was created based on the desire to rethink the way we live, live and participate in communities. The goal is to develop an alternative housing and living framework, where people with and without disabilities can live side by side in a diverse, active and inclusive local community.

The community should not be created for the citizens, but together with and by the citizens themselves. This means that residents, relatives, professionals and partners help shape everyday life, the activities, the community and the values that will support ILC.

ILC works with sustainable housing, green energy, car sharing, shared facilities, nature, local production and social economic activities as part of an overall model. The inspiration comes from permaculture and almost self-sufficient local communities, where resources are used responsibly, and where people, nature and the economy are considered together.

In ILC, social sustainability is combined with physical and environmental sustainability. It is about creating good housing and creating an everyday life with relationships, participation, dignity and the opportunity to contribute.

The ambition is to develop a community that both strengthens the quality of life for the individual and contributes to greater societal value. ILC wants to show how new forms of housing can support the UN’s global goals, strengthen communities and at the same time help manage society’s resources better.
